Dermatitis is a general term that describes an inflammation of the skin.
It usually involves an itchy rash on swollen, reddened skin. Skin affected by dermatitis may blister, ooze, develop a crust or flake off. Dermatitis can be caused by contact with any of a number of substances, such as poison ivy, soaps and jewelry with nickel in it.
Tinea is a skin infection that is caused by fungi. Related skin fungus infections may appear: on the scalp, in the groin(jock itch), between the toes,in other places on the skin.
Tinea can spread easily. You can catch it if you come into direct contact with an area of ringworm on someone's body. You can also get it by touching items that have the fungi on them.
